Event 2 – Where to next? Up to you…

Chapter 1 came and went and a great time was had by all in attendance. The people who came out were also good enough to put their reactions and ideas about what we should do next into the AreYouMyPartner book…

So, what shall we do for Chapter 2? Well, that depends on you.

Between now and Tuesday the 8th of February/2011, please send in your ideas for what we should do for Chapter 2.

But let’s be smart about this! All good stories evolve, so we should carry forward some inspiration from Chapter 1. So two things that people liked about Chapter 1 to consider when sending in your ideas:

1) Make it London based (this may change in the future, but Chapter 2 needs to stay in The Big Smoke for now)

2) Something that involves a group dynamic or teamwork

After the 8th of February, the best ideas will be put up here for a vote… then you vote for the best idea and we’ll set it up!

(By the way, a few people pointed out that Valentine’s day is coming up soon. I’m not sure if that day is special to your or not, but don’t be shy to consider it: should we (or should we not) hold something on that day? Debate…)

Look forward to your ideas!

  1. Two ideas so far from @Knightyjr 5:19pm via TweetDeck

@AreYouMyPartner not sure of the logistics but how about a treasure hunt? Or trying out geochaching in small groups ?

Love the OOPS clips at the end. But on a more serious note… :-)

I’ve dropped mention of the Chapter 2 event on another new blog post, so there MIGHT be some more traffic heading this way, but what I’ve got to throw into the pot of ideas are as follows:

    1. LOCATION: Something at the Globe Theatre on the South Bank? Was thinking maybe something connected to poetry but it could also work with a treasure hunt idea.

    2. LOCATION: Something at Camden Market (or ANY market, really, Camden’s just a personal favourite) – I loved the story of your red book and how it just seemed to appear at the right time. Maybe some sort of treasure hunt where people look for their inspiration amongst market stalls.

    3. EVENT: Poetry. Not sure how comfortable people are just spontaneously spouting poetry so maybe something a bit more fun with words cut out of magazines, or those fridge magnets you can buy – if everyone brings some along we could make some sort of game out of it.

    4. EVENT: Playing, in a traditional sense, but board games and card games that are a little more… erm… engaging than Monopoly or Chess. Something that can play up to the social aspect. I’ve got a whole load of card games and board games, though I suspect the card games would work better.

Thanks Simon… good ideas… will think about them as we ski today :-)

So here’s one idea for a group-based date:

8th of March is Mardi Gras, don’t know if people know it in England, but it’s a big thing in Slovenia and everyone put on masks and costumes, eat a lot of candy, and well, drink a lot of beer if they’re old enough:). It’s celebrated on a Tuesday and a Saturday before that, in this case March 8th and 5th.

So for a date: 14 days before, everyone who want to participate have to think of a mask or a character (it can even be a thing, you can think of a glass of Guiness if you are a huge fan) that would tell something about themselves. It does not have to be the most obvious thing (like if you work as a doctor, you don’t have to write “a doctor”) but also not some obscure detail about yourself that even you don’t find interesting. Then they write this “mask/costume” on a piece of paper, after which there is draw. Whoever gets your piece of paper has to find/make that costume and wear it for Mardi Gras. On the 5th or the 8th you then have a party or just go grab some drinks to a pub and everyone have to figure out whose mask they are wearing.

Also I don’t know, whether people attending are mostly strangers or friends. I would suggest you ask the people to sign up for the date in advance, and let them know on time whether the majority of people there are going to be people who they know or not, so they know whether to think of some mind twisters or some simpler masks.

Ideas from the AYMP book and emailed in:

    >> Choose your own historical adventure,

    >> More activities like Chapter 1 where people have an opportunity to surprise one another.

    >> Maybe more of a collaborative game, co-creation. What about a real life game of monopoly?

    >> Outdoor hikes, getting out of London, or hands-on creativity (Guerrilla Gardening, scrap head challenge with found objects, a hike in Wales?)

    >> A London skate event (roller-blading).

    >> Mass bike trip around London or surrounding area.
