Weekly Notes #3

For the week ending 1st of May, 2011

Well, the whole world knows all know what happened this week;

Wall art: Will and Kate

Painted on a wall in Islington: the royals ahead of the wedding

And the Lancaster and two Spitfires that did the Fly over Buckingham Palace then flew right over our backyard. We got “buzzed”!

DoneThe AYMP site got a facelift to make it cleaner, but also in preparation to scale up some activities. The background is a photo I took in Devon the week previous – a place very special to CeCe and I as it is where we started dating. It also has a deeper meaning which I will explore in the coming weeks. So this is what AYMP looked before last week, and with the changes made this week:

AYMP before and after

Something that inspired me this week

Aside from the Royal wedding? Well there was this tweet that made me smile:

“Facebook is like jail, you sit around and waste time, you write on walls and you get poked by people you don’t know.” — RT @WilIFerrell

What’s on next week

To doFormalise a simple strategy and plan for AYMP and critical path so we can map the progress of goals and objectives.

To doThink about what Event 6 could be.

Other stuff on the list (on-going)

To do

I own the domains www.aymp.com and blog.aymp.com. I might switch a bunch of things over to the shorter domain name.

To doExplore external partnerships to hold larger events.

Until next week…

Weekly Notes #2

For the week ending 24th of April, 2011

Easter eggs

Happy Easter everyone!

Welcome to my second instalment of Weekly Notes. This week ends with the Easter long weekend (four days off work), so it’s been a short work week, nonetheless an eventful one for AYMP.

In other news the weather in most of the UK has been (unseasonably) hot and sunny, and next week the Royals are getting married, so there is a lot of fervour about that.

Here is this week’s summary of what was accomplished, what inspired and what is on the horizon;

Achieved this week

DoneEvent 5: Night Music. <– Read all about it

DoneJust completed a bloopers/out-take reel from the Flashback series. That will go up this week.

Something that inspired me this week

[VIDEO] Morgan Spurlock: The greatest TED Talk ever sold

What’s on next week

To doEvent 6: put some thought into what that might be.

To doRe-design the AYMP site.

Other stuff on the list (on-going)

To doFormalising a simple strategy and plan for AYMP and critical path so we can map the progress of goals and objectives.

To doI own the domains www.aymp.com and blog.aymp.com. I might switch a bunch of things over to the shorter domain name.

Weekly Note #1

For the week ending 17th of April, 2011

Weekly notes iconWelcome to Weekly Notes. From now on, at the end every week I’m going to write a post about how AreYouMyPartner is unfolding, what has been achieved that week and what short and long term challenges lie on the path to achieving the overall vision.

I’ve seen other people do this exercise, and I believe it will be a useful tool. Weekly Notes will keep things focused. They will serve as a progress tracker and help inform a “road map” on where we go next. And by making AYMP’s challenges pubic, someone watching might hold a clue, or help out, or spot an opportunity I can’t see.

So without further ado, here is the first in a series of Weekly Notes.

Achieved this week

DoneVoting/Polls. On two occasions PollDaddy was used to canvas the public on what event(s) we do next. The issue with that is that anyone in the world can vote, so from now on affecting the outcome of future events will be the exclusive right of the people who actually turn out. (Although I might still run some polling on other matters.)

DoneInstead of calling each event a “Chapter”, we’re going to call them… “Events.” A number of people mentioned that the word Chapter might be confusing. (I originally started using “Chapter” because I thought of this blog as an unfolding story, and while that is still true, “Events” just seems to be a cleaner word… and doesn’t make people think of cults.)

DoneThe Featurettes section has been renamed Flashbacks.

Done On massive recommendation, I setup an AYMP Vimeo account for my videos, leaving the YouTube account as a backup.

DoneThis is really geeky, but last week a whole bunch of code bugs on the site got dealt with, some new backend features were installed, and some optimisation was put in place (thanks Charles!). I know, geeky. But it makes this site better and easier to update. I’ve also re-jigged a few things on the site.

Something that inspired me this week

“I consider a goal as a journey rather than a destination. And each year I set a new goal.”
– Curtis Carlson, Businessman and technologist

What’s on next week

To do Publish a bloopers/out-take reel from the Flashback series.

To do Event 5: Night Music. Really looking forward to seeing Suzie sing.

To doEvent 6: put some thought into what that might be once I speak to people who come to Event 5.

To doSome more geeky optimisation and code bug-related stuff.

Other stuff on the list (on-going)

To doFormalising a simple strategy and plan for AYMP and critical path so we can map the progress of goals and objectives.

To doI own the domains www.aymp.com and blog.aymp.com. I might switch a bunch of things over to the shorter domain name.

To doA re-design of the site to better reflect the vision.

To doExplore external partnerships to hold larger events.

Until next week…
