It was an early start on a Saturday morning, but ten people converged on Bracknell’s Swinley Forest, just outside London, for a day out of Go Ape. Go Ape involves wearing a harness replete with clips, carabiner and a pulley… One almost feels like Batman. Next is a climb up into the canopies of the forest to take on a series of challenges high above the earth – from rope bridges to swinging planks to rope nets to moving logs to tunnels – each section ending with a glorious long zip wire back to the ground.
It was a day of high energy, adventure and excitement. The group bonded and yelled encouragement to each other on each challenge – especially one of the most scary tasks, a jumping drop and zip line into a rope web. The spirit of all-for-one-and-one-for-all was certainly in the air.
At the end of the day we were all exhausted, elated and glowing from our Go Ape adventure. We convoyed to a nearby pub where the food and drink went down so well after our exertions. Everyone said they had an amazing time out, and then asked what, when and where was the next adventure? Well, that remains to be seen!
What an amazing day out! What are we doing next?

This past week has felt really productive, not least because two new AYMP events are up: Event 6 (Climbing at the Castle) and Event 7 (Go Ape). Both of these adventures represent things that people have been requesting; namely more sporty, adventurous type activities. So LET’S DO IT! The climbing will take place in north London and the Go Ape somewhere outside of London, but both will be what people want; fun and active ways to meet a group of like-minded people.
It will be interesting to see what follow-up adventures and relationships may also result in the long term.
It might be a few years old, but this past week CeCe and I were watching the show “The IT Crowd” and we caught an episode that opened with a hilarious montage on how social networking actually works. One segment shows the lovely lady above, and the voice-over exclaims “[...] and maybe find that special someone.”
Previously I had written some articles (one about Freemium online dating and the other about Location Based Dating) both of which mentioned how quite a few men I know using online dating seem to find more call girls than real girls on some of the dating services they use. I might be late to the party on “The IT Crowd”, but it’s interesting to see how some things don’t change after a few years.
