The weather is looking gorgeous this weekend, so I’ll be joining the London Sunday Stroll, and then after we will relax in Hyde Park, have a pic-nique and perhaps play some volleyball or other park games. AreYouMyPartner has joined the London Sunday Stroll and London Friday Night skate before (Event 3), and it’s an amazing day out and a great way to meet adventurous, like-minded people so we’re doing it again.
See you there!
Starts: Sunday, May 8th 2011 @ 1:45 PM
Location: Hyde Park Corner. Click here for map.
Cost: FREE (but you need to bring skates and any safety gear you like wearing. If you don’t have any skates or gear, you can rent the whole kit for the day for £10 from here: Club Blue Room, near Marble Arch)
Who can come: Anyone can come – you can be a novice skater on the Sunday Stroll. All you need to know how to do is stop. You will be in a large, protected crowd of people. It’s very safe, and very fun!
If you don’t want to skate, but still want to participate in this event, you have two other choices to come out on that day;
1) You can bike, but bikers hang at the back of the crowd
2) You skip the skate but join us after the event at 4pm for some drinks – call me at 4pm to find out where we’ll be
Weather warning: In the event of bad weather, this event will be cancelled. The “go” or “no-go” information can be found here on the day: www.lfns.co.uk.

In 1777 famous British author Samuel Johnson said to a friend “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life”. (I’m going to assume in this instance “man” includes woman-folk too.)
Well it’s not 1777 anymore, but London is a world class city and an exciting place to live. I arrived here starry-eyed in 2006 with the plan to hang out for a couple of years (maybe three years max) and then go somewhere else. Five years and one English wife later, I’m still in The Big Smoke, which makes me think of another expression I often tell my friends: “Life happens when you’re making plans.”
But living in such a big city and the routine of life and taking the London Underground can sometimes make London dwellers feel like this:
This past weekend my cousin invited me to go on a guided historical London walk, specifically Westminster Abbey and Parliament area.
For one thing, we often don’t explore our own back yard (or at least not until someone visits us and makes us see things in our own city we might take for granted). London has many hidden treasures, and thus for me this walk was part “see my own yard” and part research for AreYouMyPartner. I wanted to see if a London history walk might be a good candidate for a dating event or chapter.
To be sure, the walk and the guide himself were fascinating, and discovering things you don’t know about is always good. But I still couldn’t put my finger on “the twist” that would make this experience a good dating chapter. So far in Chapter 1 (Art game), Chapter 2 (Treasure hunt) and Chapter 3 (London skate) there was always a way to use the experiences to help people get to know each other better, to “Meet. Play. Love? …” And so far the outputs from those chapters have been amazing: lots of follow-on inspiration and ideas and energy from those who participated.
So have a look at the photos below. I took them on the walk. Let me know if they spur on any ideas… Remember, we want ideas that become chapters that help people “Meet. Play. (and potentially find) Love?”
