Once upon a time…
When I was single, I thought to myself: If I have a partner, who are they? Where are they? How would I meet them? One day I decided to try something different. And it paid off. Big. Time.
Having just moved to the big, busy city of London, I explored the tried and tested routes in my search for my partner; I talked to friends, went on blind dates, joined networks, went speed dating and setup profiles on lots of dating sites. The latter sites all promised they were different, they had my match, but in reality they were only slightly different shades of grey. I wanted colour.
We all know it’s hard to write our own reviews, but I dreamed of meeting like-minded people through real life experiences instead of using a flirty face icon. I wanted meaningful, real-life encounters that would be natural, fun and always loaded with potential for wider networking. A new question popped into my mind: Could online dating be better? How could I improve my search?
I setup a blog called AreYouMyWife.com that had a simple statement: “Contact me to go out on a creative date that reveals our characters”. It was a simple way to tell my own story to the world – no filters, no database with match-bots, no gimmicks, just honesty.
AreYouMyWife grew beyond my wildest expectations. Over the span of a year I would end up going around the world on just under 50 amazing dates in just over a dozen countries, fuelled entirely by the kindness of strangers from around the globe.
Not only did I meet amazing people, but AreYouMyWife opened doors on opportunity, new friendships, networking, adventure and fantastic experiences. Now that is how dating using the inter-web should be!
And best of all, it worked; I met an amazing woman named CeCe. We dated for a few years and together we chased our dreams as a team. Then one day on a visit to my native Montreal we were walking around Mount Royal when I got down on one knee to ask her a question…
She answered YES!
